White Oaks, NM, Hoyle House, built in 1893

White Oaks, NM, Hoyle House, built in 1893

Built in 1893 by Watson Hoyle who was part owner of the "honest Abe" gold mine, in White Oaks, NM. It was built to impress a certain lady who he hoped to marry; she turned him down.

White Oaks is the biggest dissappointment in "ghost towns" for me. This ain't no freakin' ghost town, there are too many people and businesses here! This place lives on it's "Billy the Kid" history and advertises itself as a ghost town. Sadly, this was on the top of my Lincoln County road trip and I left disappointed. I didn't spend 20 minutes here.

Even this house was off limits (maybe someone lives here, IDK). I took this shot from ACROSS town, up on a hill with my 500mm lens. If you're looking for wild, wild west ghost towns, don't waste your time with White Oaks.

My biggest find in White Oaks: That my 500mm cheap-o lens can take a decent photo! Luckily, I was up on a hill, WAY over by the school. I'd guess there is about a mile between the 2 buildings.

According to whiteoaksnewmexico.com:
The Hoyle House is now owned by Mrs. Larue Wetzel, a daughter of Allen Lane. The house was a landmark in White Oaks from the moment it was built in 1893. It is reported to have cost $40,000.00. Note the observation platform, sometimes known as the "Widow's Walk," and the various windows: two round and one rectangular attic windows and one arched front window. Upon a close inspection, you can see how well the stone cornices are joined into the brick. It is said that stonecutters were brought from St. Louis to do this work.

Outstanding Design Clocks on the Poco Á Poco building of the Corniche Real Estate Company in Sannomiya Kobe Japan

Who says that public clocks don't have a future because of the digitilization era? Look at this absolutely outstanding clock (one on both sides of the building) on a brand new real estate project, the Poco A Poco multi-purpose building (shops, offices and appartments) in Sannomiya Kobe Japan. It takes some effort to get this picture but it is more than worth it!
